Maiden Blush Apple

Historical USDA watercolour of the Maiden Blush Apple apple, painted 1860–1875

Maiden's Blush is an American apple recorded in New Jersey by the early 1800s. Flattened and pale lemon-yellow with a delicate red "blush" on the sunny cheek, it has crisp, tart, aromatic white flesh. It was a classic apple for drying and for sauce, prized as much for its beauty as its use.
