Winesap Apple

Winesap is an old American apple, documented by the late 1700s and widely grown through the 19th century. Small to medium and deep wine-red, it has firm, crisp, juicy yellow flesh with a tangy, spicy, wine-like flavour. Exceptionally long-keeping and a strong cider apple, it was a commercial mainstay of the era the USDA documented.
