Comice Pear

Historical USDA watercolour of the Comice Pear pear, painted 1840–1875

The Comice (Doyenné du Comice) was raised about 1849 in Angers, France, and is widely considered the finest dessert pear of all. Rounded and greenish-yellow, often blushed, it has exceptionally sweet, juicy, smooth and buttery flesh prized for eating fresh.
